Elena versus her mother...
In this snippet Elena, recently transported into the world of Anatemia, meets the woman who is now her mother for the first time. As far as Carrie is concerned Elena has always been her daughter, not a man from England who rolled a female character for this MMORPG, which causes some 'interesting' conversations.

Elena looked at Ren. “Help,” she said in a small voice.

“I don’t know what you’re worried about,” he said. “She’s lovely, and clearly thinks you’re amazing.”

“What if I say something wrong?” Elena said sounding terrified.

“I can try to help cover it up,” he said.

They went inside to a large room with wooden carved seats covered in cushions, the ceiling was a mixture of intertwining vines, there was what smelt like a kitchen beyond. Elena took a tiny amount of comfort that she was with Ren and he seemed better at this situation. “Ellie,” Carrie called poking her head around the door. “Mum wants you in the kitchen.”

Well that took care of the comfort then. She leant her staff against the wall and went scared into the kitchen. Carrie scuttled into the front room leaving the two alone.

“Can you get me some plates out dear?” Allie asked.

Elena looked around wildly trying to think where they were, all the cupboards were the same. Her mum looked at her. “Elena? Coo-ee wakey wakey.”

“Sorry,” she said realising her mistake .

“I’ll get them then,” Allie said fetching from a cupboard. “Can you at least get some cutlery,” she pointed vaguely to some draws.

‘Ok, that should be easy enough,’ she thought heading towards draws. The first draw she tried had them in and she exhaled thankfully.

“He seems nice, your friend, how did you meet him?”

Elena thought fast. “We arrived together at the starting place and quickly realised our classes work well together, he hits things and I keep him alive.”

“I’m so glad you found a warrior, I have to admit that I was terrified of you being alone and only a priestess. He’s handsome too,” Elena nearly dropped the cutlery, Allie didn’t notice. “Is there anything, you know, you two?” She asked.

“Mother!” She snapped realising quickly her predicament, she thought. ‘How am I having this conversation? I was a man yesterday morning, I was in another world and you weren’t my mother, a day later and I’m here and you, my mother, is asking me about if I like some guy? ARRRRRRRGGHHHH! FUCKBALLS. There was only one thing she could think of to say, in this circumstance. “I’ve only just met him.”

“Well stranger things have happened.”

Elena secretly boggled. ‘NO THEY FUCKING HAVEN’T, NEVER HAS ANYTHING STRANGER HAPPENED THAN THIS! NOT BY A LONG SHOT, TO ANYONE WHO HAS EVER HAD A STRANGE OCCURANCE, THIS IS RIGHT FUCKING UP THERE! Her brain screamed it, somehow through the terror and messed up head trauma she managed to put the cutlery down, after those few sentences, it would have been easy to cut herself with them, even as blunt as cutlery is. “Well I wouldn’t,” she said eventually.

Her mother certainly knew how to make it worse, no matter what she did or said, this one was seeming to be heading for the very bottom. “I suppose it wouldn’t be a good idea, what if he died while levelling?”

Elena boggled at her now. “Mother! I can’t believe you said that.”

“Well it’s the truth dear.”

“But don’t say that to me,” in her mind she said. ‘WHAT THE FUCK??!!?!??!?!’ Out loud she said. “Do you want to scare the hells out of me?”
“I’m sorry dear. It was only meant to be a saying.”

“It’s a horrible one,” it really did upset Elena.

Allie was not a bright woman unfortunately, kind and honest but not bright and she demonstrated that here. “Of course I suppose you wouldn’t want to run the risk of getting pregnant while questing.”

The crash of a plate being dropped roused Ren to poke his head around the door. “Is everything ok?” He asked.

“Fine love, Elena just slipped, that’s all,” Allie said.

Elena gave the face of utter terror towards him. He knew he couldn’t say anything so he slid back out into the lounge. “Mum!” Elena hissed while her mind may have fainted. ‘Pregnant……..I mean……oh….goddess……I……am physically capable of it……..I guess…….well I must be……..I…………………………………………..help!’
